Social Studies in Montana

Coming soon...

Social Studies in Colorado

Over the past four years the Colorado Department of Education has been improving and developing their Social Studies standards, assessments, and recommended curriculum.  This is an exciting time for Social Studies as we move away from rote memorization to more advanced thinking that still includes a deep understanding of content, but also integrates relevant 21st century concepts and skills, with an emphasis on literacy.  Colorado Social Studies students are learning how to link the past to the present, and how to evaluate various forms of information for bias, accuracy, and point of view.  Whether you're in Delta or Denver the enduring understandings and essentials questions that are being taught should be the same... we are creating thoughtful, engaged citizens.

KIPP Montbello Curriculum

We will be using Colorado standards and KIPP AIMS (objectives) to create a rigorous Social Studies curriculum that is also relevant to the lives of our KIPPsters.  I will be integrating some of my previous ideas and knowledge from the curriculum work I participated in at Delta Middle School.

More to come...

Delta County School District Curriculum

In this section of the website, students and parents can learn more about the various content and skills that are priorities in our school district.  Because there is so much that can be taught, a team of educators used a proven criteria, and training by the Center for Leadership and Learning to write our district curriculum.  The tools and enrichment provided in this section will help students review and  master the content and skills that are important in Social Studies, and in becoming an educated, active citizen.  Students and parents are encouraged to contact me if they have questions or need tutoring.
