Summer 2012

The Delta County Commissioners and citizens from various sectors in the county (the City of Delta, conservation agencies, Delta schools, Double J's, Paonia, and other private business) are meeting throughout the summer to make sure a sustainable county recycling program is established.  The County Transfer Station is still open.  Double J's has also opened a recycling station in Austin.  Look in the Delta Independent for updates throughout the summer and fall.

February 2012

Just last week, Delta County opened up a pilot recycling program at the Hotchkiss Transfer Station.  While we are excited the County is moving forward on recycling we are disappointed that the Commissioners chose that location.  We think that a program in the city of Delta is more fiscally responsible and will be more sustainable in the long-term.  Below are attachments from the Delta County Independent, chronicling the recycling movement over the last eighth months:

August 2011

Delta County is currently in the process of organizing a county wide recycling program.  Landfill Coordinator, Gary Vance, is heading the effort.  I am in touch with him, and will update this part of the website as I hear more from him.  As far as I know we should have three different county wide collection stations (one in Hotchkiss, one at the county dump, and one in Delta between Delta Middle School and Cleland Park) for recycling by the end of the year!  Way to go Delta!

“The DMS Recycling Proposal”                                               Spring 2011

Students and staff at Delta Middle School are ready to take two proposals to City Council.  They hope to convince City Council that the town and/or county needs it’s own recycling program.  Currently residents rely on the services of Grand Junction and Montrose.

Please see the powerpoint below to learn more about what the students are proposing, and to see what data the students have collected from local businesses, school district staff, and general citizens.

If you’d like to fill out the survey there is an attachment below. You can return your survey to Delta Middle School, 910 Grand Ave, Delta CO 81416 or email Ms. Eck at hhancock@deltaschools.com.  Please return surveys by April 4th 2011.

Thank you in advance for the support.
