What is Student Council at Delta Middle School?

Student Council is a student group at DMS that develops student citizenship, leadership, school pride, and service opportunities.  Since student government is at the foundation of this club, meetings and activities are led by their elected Officers and the Co-Chairs of Committees, with supervision and guidance by Mrs. Hancock and Mrs. Quezada.

How is Student Council organized?

DMS Student Council has five elected officers: President (7th or 8th), Vice-President (7th or 8th), Treasurer (7th or 8th), Recording Secretary (7th or 8th), and Attendance Secretary (6th), as well as several Co-Chairs/Leaders of various committees.  The Co-Chairs/Leaders are elected informally by members of Student Council, and sometimes appointed.  Committees in the past have included: Concessions, Dance/Spirit Week Committee, the Public Relations Committee, the Recyclers (Recycling Committee), the Service Committee, and the Talent Show Committee.  All DMS students who are academically eligible are invited to participate Student Council as long as they behave appropriately.  Student Council is not just a "time to hang out with friends".  We have fun, but we have a lot to accomplish as well.

When does Student Council meet?  How do I get involved?

Student Council meets on WEDNESDAY after school until 4:30 pm in Mrs. Hancock's classroom.  We tried Friday's, but it was too crazy, so we are meeting again on WEDNESDAY.  If you have not been able to attend due to sports or another conflict you are still welcome to join us :)  Officers and Co-Chairs meet with Mrs. Hancock once a week during advisory to plan.  Show up with a good attitude, and learn how you can help make DMS and our community a better place!  Talk to Mrs. Hancock if you have questions or a great idea.
